What’s the weather like in Gran Canaria in February?
Located around 150km off the west coast of northern Africa, Gran Canaria enjoys warm weather all year round. As one of the Canary Islands, also known as the ‘Islands of Eternal Spring’, Gran Canaria is hardly affected by winter so you can expect lots of sunshine during February. The month is one of the wettest of the year, but you still won’t get much rain.
Microclimates
Gran Canaria is a round volcanic island with high mountains in its centre that have a big effect on the weather you'll get. The southwest’s sheltered from north easterly winds, making it a bit warmer and drier than the north. There’s less rain on the coast compared to central areas, while temperatures are cooler at higher altitudes. The Canary Current will help to keep you cool along with the winds, although the Sahara Desert has the opposite effect. It can send over hot winds that make the weather scorching, while February’s one of the most likely months to be affected by a dust storm.
Averages
The average high temperature in Gran Canaria during February is 21ºC, some way off the summer but still perfectly warm enough to hit the beach and catch some rays. Although it’s not cold you'll want to bring some warmer clothes for the evenings, as temperatures drop to 13ºC at night. The average sea temperature’s 19ºC, while humidity’s low and ranges from the early-50s to mid-80s(%). Average rainfall’s 24mm over the course of three rainy days.
Daylight
In February you can expect 11 hours of daylight with seven hours of sunshine each day. Despite technically being winter, the UV index will still be high so take care in the sun, which sets around 6.40pm at the beginning of February, getting later as the month goes on.
