What's the weather like in Spain in August?

From coastal landscapes to rugged mountains and cosmopolitan cities, Spain is a vast country with a largely Mediterranean climate bringing warm summers and cooler winters. In August, Spain is mainly hot, dry and sunny, with warmer temperatures on the Mediterranean coast and inland, and slightly milder temperatures in the north. August is the high season in Spain, so most resorts are busy at this time of year.

In Malaga on the Costa del Sol, the average temperature at this time of year is a warm 25°C, with highs reaching 31°C in the peak of the afternoon. At night, temperatures are still very comfortable with an average low of 21°C. Further north in Madrid, the average temperature is also 25°C, but the afternoons can get much hotter with highs of a sweltering 33°C. It’s cooler here at night than the south coast, with lows of 16°C, while just 10mm of rain is expected over the course of August. In the north, Bilbao experiences highs of 26°C, lows of 15°C and 60mm rain in August.
