What's the weather like in Sicily in September?

Sitting off the toe of Italy’s boot, Sicily’s the largest island in the Mediterranean. This gives it typical Mediterranean weather with long, hot summers. You'll get lots of sun if you're going in September, which is a bit cooler than the peak months of July and August, although the amount of rain starts to rise as autumn gets closer. Mount Etna’s one of the world’s tallest volcanoes and has quite a big impact on the weather. It protects the south from north westerly winds, so you'll be warmer and drier here. The southeast coast’s also slightly calmer.

The average high in capital Palermo is 27ºC in September with things staying nice and warm in the evenings. Temperatures only drop to 19ºC at night so you shouldn't need much more than shorts and t-shirts. The sea temperature’s 25ºC, while humidity’s low. UV levels will be high so take sun cream, and sunset’s just after 7.30pm at the start of the month.
