What’s the weather like in Italy in February?

From the mountainous Alps to the Mediterranean island of Sicily, Italy is a vast country with varying weather depending on where you visit. In February, Italy is still experiencing winter weather, with cool temperatures across the country. The north is generally much cooler than the milder southern regions, so if you want a marginally warmer climate head to Rome or Sicily. Milan and Venice are a few degrees colder, but it can be a good time to explore the sights as long as you wrap up warm.

In the capital city of Rome, temperatures hover around 8°C in February. Milan is slightly colder with an average temperature of 6°C, highs of 11°C and evening  lows of a chilly 1°C. Sicily meanwhile is a relatively mild 9°C. Wherever you go in Italy at this time of year, you’ll need to bring plenty of layers and a light rain jacket. Rome can be quite showery with 99mm of rainfall, while Milan is quite dry with just 22mm of rain expected. There are ten to 11 hours of daylight across the country in February and if you’re looking for sunshine, Sicily is the place to be with eight hours expected each day.
