What's the weather like in Sri Lanka in November?
Sitting just 30km off the southeast coast of India, Sri Lanka’s an island nation with tropical weather. The island has two monsoon seasons; the northeast monsoon from October to February and the southwest’s from May to August. Sri Lanka’s south central region’s mountainous, which has a big impact on the weather along with warm Indian Ocean waters and the huge landmass of the Indian subcontinent. November falls in the northeast monsoon, meaning you'll get the most rain in the north east at this time. The south west’s generally the wettest part of Sri Lanka and the northwest and southeast coasts are the driest. The capital Colombo is on the west coast and generally has similar amounts of rain during each monsoon.
Averages
The average high in capital Colombo is 30ºC in November, which is perfect if you like being hot. Things stay nice and warm in the evenings so you don't need to worry about taking up too much space in your suitcase with warm clothes. The sea temperature’s 28ºC, so it’s lovely for swimming, while humidity’s high. There’s 306mm of rain over 15 days, but you can still expect 12 hours of daylight with seven hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be extremely high so make sure you use lots of sun cream. Sunset’s just before 6pm.
