What's the weather like in Mauritius in August?
Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of Africa and 900km east of Madagascar. It sits close to the Tropic of Capricorn, and has tropical weather that will give you high temperatures and lots of sun in August.
Climate
Mauritius has two distinct seasons because of its tropical climate, with a warm and humid summer from November to April, and a cooler and drier winter from June to September. South easterly winds will help to keep you comfortable as they reduce humidity, while the surrounding ocean will also keep you cool. There’s different weather around the island because it’s quite mountainous, with the north and west getting warmer and drier weather than the south and east. You’ll also get higher temperatures on the coast compared to inland.
Averages
The average high in Mauritius during August’s 25ºC, which cools to 16ºC at night so bring a warmer top for the evenings. The sea temperature’s 23ºC, while humidity’s low and there’s 76mm of rain over six days. You can usually count on 11 hours of daylight with seven hours of sunshine each day, so make sure you take plenty of sun cream as UV levels will also be very high. The sun goes down at around 6pm in August.
