What's the weather like in the Maldives in October?

The Maldives is an island country and archipelago in the Indian Ocean, to the southwest of Sri Lanka and India. The wet season finishes in October, although you can still expect high temperatures, lots of sun and lovely warm waters.

Wet season

The Maldives has similar temperatures all year round, although the tropical monsoon climate means there’s a distinct wet season, which runs from May to October. The dry season lasts from November to April. You'll get more rain on islands to the south because of the south westerly monsoon winds. There’s stronger winds in general during the wet season, and also higher humidity.

Averages

The capital Maléis also the Maldives’ largest city, and has an average high of 30ºC in October. Don’t worry about bringing warm clothes, as evenings are balmy and it only cools to 25ºC at night. The sea temperature’s a warm 28ºC, which is perfect for relaxing in, while humidity’s high. Average rainfall’s 229mm over 16 rainy days, but you can still look forward to eight hours of sunshine from the 12 hours of daylight each day. UV levels will be extreme so take care and use plenty of sun cream in the sun, which sets just before 6pm.
