What's the weather like in the Maldives in May?

The Maldives are a group of islands in the Indian Ocean, to the southwest of Sri Lanka and India. This means the island country has a tropical monsoon climate so temperatures are high all year round and the amount of rain changes a lot. The dry season’s from November to April, and May’s the start of the wet season that lasts until October. You'll have quite a bit of rain if you're going in May, although it doesn’t usually rain for long and you'll still get plenty of hot and sunny weather.

The average high in the capital, Malé, is 31ºC in May, so it’s a great time to go if you love the heat. Things stay nice and warm in the evenings as the temperature only cools to 26ºC. At 30ºC, the sea’s perfect for swimming, while humidity’s very high. There’s 211mm of rain over 15 days, but you can still expect 12 hours of daylight with eight hours of sunshine each day. Bring plenty of sun cream with you as UV levels will be extremely high. The sun goes down just after 6.10pm.
