What’s the weather like in Greece in September?
Located in Southeast Europe and surrounded by three oceans, you'll get plenty of sun and not much rain if you plan your holidays to Greece in September. It’s one of the world’s best holiday destinations, and still feels like summer at this time. You'll love September if you prefer slightly cooler temperatures compared to July and August, as well as thinner crowds.
Oceans and mountains
Greece has coastline on the Mediterranean, Aegean and Ionian Sea, and you'll get lovely weather if you're staying on the coast in September. Much of Greece is mountainous or hilly, with the northern Pindus Mountains bringing more rain to the west than the east. Southern Greece and its islands are much drier than the north, although there’s some small differences because of the geography. There’s cooler temperatures at some inland places, while conditions are more continental in north-central and northeastern Greece.
Averages
Southern Athens gives a good idea of the weather across Greece’s popular holiday destinations, and has an average high of 29ºC in September. Things stay quite pleasant in the evenings, which cool to 18ºC. You'll find the sea really inviting with a temperature of 25ºC, while humidity’s moderate. There’s 13mm of rain over two days, and you can expect 12 hours of daylight with nine hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be high so take care in the sun. Sunset’s just before 8pm at the start of the month.
