What's the weather like in Heraklion in May?
Located on the northern shores of the Greek island of Crete, Heraklion is a popular destination with a Mediterranean climate bringing hot summers and mild winters to the region. In May, the weather’s warming up towards its summer peak, although temperatures are still really comfortable at this time. With lots of sunshine and hardly any rain, May is a great month to visit Heraklion if you prefer fewer crowds or have young children.Averages
The average temperature at this time of year in Heraklion is 19ºC, reaching highs of 23ºC in the peak of the afternoon. With ten hours of sunshine each day on average, May is ideal for relaxing on the beach without getting too hot. If you want to take a dip in the sea, the Mediterranean waters are 20ºC this month. Although it’s beach weather during the day, you’ll need some light layers for evenings out, as the temperature falls to a low of 15ºC at night. Showers are quite rare at this time of year, with just 20mm of rain expected over the course of four days.
