What’s the weather like in Germany in September?

Temperatures dip a little from the highs of August and July, but the warm Germany weather in September still makes it a popular time to visit. If you want to avoid the peak summer months and crowds, book your trip in September and relax in exciting cities and towns like Munich, Hamburg and Baden-Baden.

    Geographical influences

Germany enjoys a warm summer with slightly higher temperatures than the UK. Areas in the north, like Hamburg, Rostock and Bremen, have a cooling wind from the North and Baltic Sea. In the south and west, it’s usually a little hotter and humid, with a few more showers. Berlin, in the east, often has higher temperatures than nearby rural towns because its cityscape helps keep heat in.

    Averages

Make sure you pack some summer clothes as the average temperature will be 19°C. This often rises by four or five degrees on warmer September days, especially in the south, so bring sun lotion and sunglasses. The low should only drop to 14°C, but it’ll feel chillier at night and you’ll need a jacket in the evening. A waterproof layer or umbrella would be a good idea. The average rainfall in Germany in September’s 45mm, with light showers expected across about 13 days. The heat and humidity levels are more comfortable than July and August and there’s a low wind speed. The warm weather in Germany in September sees six to seven hours of bright sunshine each day, which is great if you fancy joining the Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich.
