What’s the weather like in Red Sea in May?
Just like the rest of the year, the Red Sea weather in May is famous for bright blue skies, warm sunshine and dry days. Resorts like El Gouna, Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada and Makadi Bay enjoy a brilliant Mediterranean-like climate, which is fantastic for beach goers, sun bathers and water sports fans.
Geographical influences
Egypt’s Red Sea resorts are along the east coast of this amazing country, with the calm sea waters lapping at their sandy beaches. Sharm El Sheikh is towards the north on the Sinai Peninsula, by the Gulf of Aqaba. These coastal hotspots all benefit from a cool sea breeze in hot month like May, which helps to keep temperatures slightly lower in the summer heat. Inland cities can’t take advantage of this refreshing wind.
Averages
The weather in Red Sea in May attracts many visitors who want to relax in the brilliant temperatures and soak up the sun. The average high temperature for the region can top 35°C, with a normal daytime average around 31°C. On rare cooler days this may drop to just 27°C. As you’d expect, the UV levels are very high at this time and you’ll need sunblock when you’re exploring the beaches and walking around the charming towns and harbours. It’s also a good idea to take a bottle of water, as the heat and humidity are also high. Sunshine averages a fantastic 13 hours a day in the Red Sea resorts in May, with the sun rising at 5am and not disappearing until nearly 6.30pm. There’s hardly any rain during the month and on average the region gets just one or two millimetres. The sea temperature will be about 24°C and is a good place to cool off on hot days.
