What’s the weather like in Cyprus in December?
With a location in the eastern Mediterranean just off the south coast of Turkey and north of Egypt, Cyprus’ location means it has warm weather in December. It’s one of the hottest destinations in the Mediterranean, although you'll get some rain at this time of year.
Climatic influences
The Mediterranean Sea keeps things cool in Cyprus with breezes; temperatures are lower in December after the long hot summer. There’s not much difference in weather between the north and south, although the east’s a bit warmer and drier because of westerly winds. This is because it’s sheltered by the Troodos and Kyrenia mountains, with Mount Olympus standing at nearly 2,000m.
Averages
There’s different weather around Cyprus. Popular Paphos has an average high temperature of 19ºC in December, which is perfectly warm enough to relax on the beach when the sun’s out. You'll want to bring some warmer clothes for the evenings as things can get a bit chilly, with temperatures dropping to 10ºC at night. The average sea temperature’s 19ºC, while humidity’s low and ranges from around 50% to just over 80%. December’s the wettest month of the year, and there’s an average of 94mm over nine rainy days.
Daylight
During December you can expect ten hours of daylight with five hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be low, although you should still look after yourself in the sun. Sunrise is before 7am in December, while sunset gradually heads towards the 5pm mark.
