What's the weather like in Croatia in May?
Croatia has differing geography but the weather stays similar around the country. Temperatures generally start to rise in May as summer gets closer, with the rains reducing after the wetter months.
Geographical influences
Croatia has a fairly continental climate, which becomes more Mediterranean the closer you get to the Adriatic Sea. The sea will keep you cool on the coast, while the Pannonian Plains have a big impact on the north. There’s cooler temperatures at the central Dinara mountains, while you'll get less rain further east due to the low-lying Danube valleys.
Averages
There’s different weather around Croatia, but popular Dubrovnik on the Dalmatian Coast has a typical high temperature of 21ºC in May. This is nice and warm but cools to 11ºC at night so bring some warmer clothes for the evenings. Sea temperatures are around 18ºC, while humidity’s low and average rainfall’s 75mm over ten rainy days. You can expect 15 hours of daylight with eight hours of sunshine each day, while UV levels will be high making sun cream a must. Sunset’s around 8pm for much of the month.
