What’s the weather like in Copenhagen in May?
The Copenhagen weather in May shows signs that summer’s on its way with much warmer conditions than April and May. There could be some light showers around the city, but the Danish capital’s very pleasant in the spring sunshine.
Geographical influences
Because of Copenhagen’s location in Scandinavia, it has dark winters followed by lots of daylight in late spring and summer. The city enjoys 16 hours of daylight this month and the cold winds which can reach inland from the Baltic Sea begin to fade.
Averages
A warm layer may still be needed on some days, but don’t be surprised if the temperatures reach 16°C during the day. There’s always the chance it’ll drop back to 8°C or 9°C, but in the sunshine the city will feel quite mild. The sun shines for about eight hours and helps to break up any clouds. The rain averages 40mm in Copenhagen in May over only 11 rainy days. The UV index rises to a moderate level, but the heat and humidity are both low. The warmer weather in Copenhagen in May makes it a popular time to explore the city before the peak summer crowds arrive.
