What’s the weather like in Mexico in September?
Located in North America with a Caribbean coast to the east and met by the North Pacific in the west, Mexico has different weather across the country. The Yucatán Peninsula, which separates the Caribbean Sea from the Gulf of Mexico, is Mexico’s most popular tourist area, and you'll get lots of hot weather here in September.
Yucatán Peninsula
The Yucatán Peninsula has a tropical climate, so you'll get rain as well as your sun. Popular resorts Cancún and Playa del Carmen enjoy very high temperatures all year round, with not much difference between summer and winter. The area has a hurricane season with September and October the months most at risk, although the chances of being caught in one are fairly low, with predictions, warnings and emergency procedures all very good.
Averages
In Cancún the average high temperature during September reaches 33ºC, so you can look forward to shopping for new swimwear. You'll probably want to make sure you book a room with air conditioning, as things only cool to 23ºC at night. The sea temperature’s 29ºC, while humidity’s very high and ranges from 60% to an annual high of 98%. September’s the wettest month of the year with an average rainfall of 270mm across ten rainy days.
Daylight
In September you can expect 12 hours of daylight each day with six of these being bright sunshine. UV levels will be extreme, so don't forget to use lots of sun cream and take care in the midday sun. Sunset’s around 7pm at the start of September, and gradually gets earlier as the month goes on.
