Geographical influences
The Bahamas are a group of more than 700 stunning islands, to the east of the Caribbean in the north Atlantic. The northern islands, close to Florida, are slightly cooler and wetter than those in the south and east. May’s the start of the wet season and there’s more heat and humidity.

The weather in Bahamas in May sees an average high temperature of a balmy 29°C during the day. It’ll be one or two degrees hotter in the south. This dips slightly, to about 22°C at night, so you’ll need to make sure your hotel has air conditioning. Rainfall’s common throughout most of the month in the Bahamas, with 117mm falling in short and sharp downpours which soon clear. Bring your sunglasses because sunshine levels are high, with a fantastic nine hours each day. The sun rises at 6.20am and doesn’t set until nearly 8pm. You can take a refreshing dip as the water temperature will be around 26°C. UV levels are high, like they always are between May to September in the Bahamas.
