What’s the weather like in Cape Verde in December?
The location of Cape Verde in the North Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of North Africa means the islands enjoy hot weather all year round. Nicknamed the ‘African Caribbean’ there’s a few differences in weather across Cape Verde, although you'll get lots of sun and hardly any rain if you go there at this time.
Climatic variances
Cape Verde gets hardly any rain at all, even though it’s a tropical island. Some islands get more rain than others, with popular Sal and Boa Vista among the driest. The islands are cooler than mainland Africa because of the sea, which will help keep you cool in December along with breezes and trade winds, especially on the coast. Cape Verde’s relatively flat, meaning it’s quite windy, though this helps keep humidity down and is great if you enjoy water sports.
Averages
The average high temperature during December is 26ºC, making Cape Verde ideal for winter sun. Things don't cool down too much at night so you won’t need many warm things for the evenings, although air conditioning’s a good idea. The sea temperature averages at a nice and warm 25ºC, while humidity’s low and ranges from around 60% up to 90%. Average rainfall’s just a single millimetre.
Daylight
During December you can expect 11 hours of daylight with six hours of sunshine each day, and with very high UV levels you'll need to use plenty of sun cream and be careful in the midday sun. Sunset’s around 6pm in December.
