What’s the weather like in Vancouver in December?
The Vancouver weather in December is crisp and cold, with some wet weather reaching this amazing city in south west Canada. The climate is much milder compared to most of Canada and there’s very little chance of snow being on the ground this month. It’s a great time to visit Vancouver in the run-up to Christmas.
Geographical influences
Vancouver’s climate is very different to much of Canada, which can be extremely cold and snowy between December and February. The city is the capital of British Colombia, very close to the American border, by the Fraser River and Strait of Georgia. Vancouver’s coastal location means temperatures don’t fall as low as they do inland. If you’re unlucky and a rare cold snap does hit, the snow could be heavy as the moist sea air blows across the city.
Averages
You can expect a daytime high temperature of 10°C, on the very warmest days, as the weather in Vancouver in December feels the impact of winter. This can drop to lows just below freezing point on some occasional colder days. The night time temperature will hover around 1°C. Because it’s the wettest time of the year, average rainfall measures over 200mm so keep a rain jacket handy. Winds are light at an average of 6mph. You’ll see around four hours of sunshine a day from nine hours of daylight. The sun sets in Vancouver in December at about 4.15pm.
