What's the weather like in China in March?
China is a huge country that stretches for thousands of miles and has diverse landscapes, ranging from picturesque coastlines to imposing mountains and vibrant cities. Things are slowly starting to warm up in March as the country leaves the bitterly cold winter behind. Northern and eastern regions, including the capital Beijing, are beginning to thaw after their freezing months, while it can start to feel rather mild in coastal Shanghai at this time.
Averages
The average temperature in Beijing is a brisk 5ºC in March, reaching highs of 11ºC and lows of -1ºC. It’s the driest time of year for the city, which expects less than 10mm of rain this month. You’ll need a waterproof jacket if you’re going to Shanghai, though, which has around 80mm of rain forecast across 14 wet days. Temperatures are warmer here, with an average of 9ºC, rising to a high of 13ºC. You’ll still need a thick winter coat for evenings out as the temperature falls to 5ºC after dark.
