What’s the weather like in Africa in June?
If you fancy escaping from the summer crowds in Europe but still enjoy sunny skies and warm weather, then Africa could be perfect for you. The Africa weather in June is warm and quite dry. Resorts like Cape Town, Mombasa and Banjul will have some rainfall though and you could need a showerproof jacket.
Geographical influences
Pick a spot along Africa’s vast coastline, such as Bakau in The Gambia, Mombasa or Port Elizabeth and you’ll benefit from a refreshing ocean breeze in June. The climate across Africa this month varies depending on which resort you choose to relax in. If you head to Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, for example, the weather will be hot with very little rain. Kenya’s popular coastal resort of Mombasa, on Africa’s east coast, will be around 28°C. In South Africa in June it’s a little cooler at around 18°C.

The weather in Africa in June should see an average temperature across the continent of 19°C. But if you head to Egypt or Morocco at this time the temperature is likely to be nearer 30°C! Bring your sunglasses for your stay too, because there should be around 11 hours each day this month. In Banjul, on the west coast, the sun rises at 6.40am and finally fades around 7.30pm. Africa’s top tourist destinations should have sea temperatures hovering around the 27°C mark in June, but along the coast of South Africa this is more likely to be between 15°C and 19°C. June is a dry month in Egypt and Morocco, with just a few millimetres falling, but The Gambia and Kenya will have some rain and it’s a good idea to pack an umbrella. With the humidity level around 81% it’s wise to carry water when you’re out in the heat. Make use of sunblock too as the UV index is generally high in Africa in June.
